Juneteenth StoryWalk was a success!
Opal Lee and What It Means To Be Free by Alice Faye Duncan

The "Story Walk" was set up in the front yard of our school. Students and their parents learned about Juneteenth through the physical interaction of walking, talking, and discovering new facts together. Storyboards were set out for students to use during the day and families to use in the evening or after school hours.

More than 30 families participated and were given a free copy of the book! Way to read, Hawks!

With funding from the National Endowment for the Humanities and the American Library Association, Dallas ISD is able to provide this opportunity to grow families of readers.

The Little Maverick Graphic Novel Reading List is a recommended reading list designed for children in grades K-5. The purpose of the list is to encourage students to explore a variety of current graphic novels. The Little Maverick Graphic Novel Reading List is intended for recreational reading, not to support a specific curriculum.
